Shiva Neural Stimulation Technology ("Shiva") is an example of "rotating" Complex Magnetic Neural ("God Helmet") Stimulation, which, prior to Shiva, has only been used in laboratory settings. The windows-software based approach used with Shiva allows many possibilities not yet researched or described in the scientific literature, and some of them are included with this software. There are studies that demonstrate that these signals, about as strong as the ones from a (land-line) telephone handset, do not have adverse effects on brain tissue or cells.

However, some sessions are expected to have unpleasant effects for many people, and are openly discussed as such throughout the session pages. Other sessions do not use potentially unpleasant session components. Read the information for each session carefully.

Some signals have not been used in "God Helmet" magnetic technology prior to Shiva, and one has had only user testing (the modulated 40 hertz 'chirp'), though it's based on principles which have been well-tested with other complex magnetic signal technologies.

Headaches have been reported with complex magnetic signal technology. These have not been headaches in the usual sense of the word. These have been described as a feeling of pressure rather than as pain in most cases. Shiva is too new for data on this subject to have been gathered, but a previous version of complex magnetic signal technology showed low rates for headaches (informed consent about headaches). Most of these have been associated with the hippocampal signals, and have been alleviated using common headache remedies and have occurred with a few sessions before they stopped happening.

It's important to be very careful with any session designs you might create for yourself. The manufacturer strongly suggests that you not develop your own session designs, both for safety and for effectiveness. However, there are always a few individuals who will disregard this suggestion, and in the event that unwanted effects occur, they are strongly advised not to take advice from any source except Shiva's tech support.
